Larissa
Hello! My name is Larissa Thurman and I am pretty much a kid at heart. I teach 3rd grade and have loved every minute of the last 6 years doing so. I have been fortunate to have taught 5 of these years in Deerfield District 109. I may be a bit biased, but I think that 3rd grade is the best grade ever!
I started my first year in this district having to schedule a time to visit the computer lab only to be able to do some research and type a report. Then we received Promethean Boards and Netbook carts, which encouraged new possibilities of implementing technology into my teaching. Now I can’t imagine my classroom with the use of technology on a regular basis and have the opportunity to be a 1:1 classroom.
Outside of teaching some of my other hobbies include crafting, hiking, camping, shopping, and spending time with my family and friends. I currently live in Chicago with my husband. We love living in the city and experiencing new things. I hope you enjoy our blog!

Hi! I’m Christi Harrison and I love teaching. This is my eighth year in teaching, and my second year in 3rd grade. Before this, I was an elementary Spanish teacher in my school district. My first teaching job was teaching Kindergarten in Suriname, a small country in South America.
To say the least, I have taught with a wide range of technology! My first two years of teaching I used an overhead projector when it was available (we shared across classrooms) and now I’m about to start teaching with a class set of computers! It has been a growing experience, but I am loving it!

Besides teaching, I spend my time crafting, scrapbooking, spending time with my family and friends, and shopping. I just bought my first house and I am really loving decorating and organizing! I am learning a lot about being a new homeowner!
The Team
We are thrilled to be on this journey together - we couldn’t have imagined it any other way! - and look forward to what we will learn and experience along the way.
The two of us met over 5 years ago when we both began our careers in our current school district. While we often saw each other at district events, this is the first year we have taught together, as Larissa transferred to Kipling.
Larissa: Since day one I knew we would be a great team. Christi is a wonderful teacher, an amazing person, and an incredible friend. She pushes and challenges me not only to be a better teacher, but also a better person.
Christi: I am learning so much working with Larissa and trying new ideas with her. She is a creative person who is always looking to try new things, and come up with a new plan when something doesn’t work out. It has helped me to grow as a teacher and a person to push myself to continue to find new ways to teach and challenge my students.
